So, I guess there is this thing called the GOLDEN Educators Residency, created by Scholastics and sponsored by the Sam & Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts, which takes place for two weeks on an idyllic 140 acre campus in New Berlin, NY, awarded to three teachers each year after a national competition. And, as it turns out, I am one of those three teachers…
As a teacher, summer is always awesome, but this summer I’m really looking forward to attending this residency, about a month away. Actually, one of the most difficult things is to actually believe it will be happening. (Like, look at this place…https://www.goldenfoundation.org/) An insane gift, and thankful to have been chosen. As such, I’m running around trying get everything in order, including, but limited to:
Wrap my head around what to bring, including paintings, both in progress (of which there are many) and unprimed panels (which vary from salvaged piano wood to balsa wood and veneer).
Sort out litho prints from a recent workshop at MassArt to test out watercolors. (OK, I’ll take them all.)
Dig footings and build concrete forms for a small side porch project.
Plan a whitewater rafting trip and trip to the Boston Harbor Islands with my kids.
Plant grass seed in the yard.
Get a “Bagster” and clear out my workshop. (No, really this time.)
Clean up the endless “accumulated debris” around the barn and in the basement
Get my website in order.
